There is an imposing rock of fantastic shape on the bank of a river at the entrance of Bonghwangdae Village in Gaesu-ri on the lower Geumdang Valley in the mouth of Jangmisan Mountain and Deoksusan Mountain, and it is Bonghwangdae where a legend about phoenix begins. Bonghwang Dulle-gil Course starts at Bonghwangdae and includes Ddalmisan Mountain (Nojeokbong Peak) Dulle-gil. If one passes through village roads and a ranch where Korean native cattle is put out to pasture before entering a forest path, he or she can walk along Geumdang Valley while appreciating peaceful rural landscape. Azaleas and royal azaleas come into full bloom around Bonghwangdae in Geumdang Valley. It is famous for green forests and clean water in the summer, red autumn leaves in the fall and beautiful snow landscape in the winter.
