The Bongsan Studio was established to praise conception of Yulgok while Yulgok’s father, Won-su Lee served as Suunpangwan(a judge of Suun) here for 4 years in 1530. Jae-hong Hong, a Confucian scholar who resided in Pyeongchon in 1896, pleaded with King Gojong before being bestowed with a sanctum site centering around Pangwandae, and the studio was built by Confucian scholars who donated money.
